A young woman wearing an Element Power hat, employee badge and shirt knocked on my door and started going through her sales pitch for this solar energy company. I asked to see her identification card from the City of Tempe showing she has a valid permit from the city to do door-to-door solicitations. This woman claimed she was sure that the company had one. I said she is required by city ordinance to show her ID card if asked, she responded that she was sure that was not true. I closed the door at this point in time. Tempe City Ordinance 24-71 Section d: " It shall be unlawful for any individual acting as a door-to-door seller or solicitor to fail to exhibit a valid identification card upon the request of any police officer, finance and technology director or any of his authorized agents, or upon the request of any resident of the city. " If a resident of the City of Tempe asks you to show this card you are required to do so!
